Thixotropic Contact Adhesive - 5 Litres
Construction Chemicals Thixotropic Contact Adhesive is a thixotropic, multipurpose, high performance contact cement with non-drip properties.
This characteristic makes it ideal for use on vertical surfaces and soffits.
It is suitable for bonding decorative laminates, rigid plastics such as UPVC and ABS, polyurethane foams, supported PVC, leather, polyester glass fibre, rubber sheet and extrusions, all of which may be bonded to each other or to hardboard, chipboard, plywood and painted or unpainted metal.
Construction Chemicals Thixotropic Contact Adhesive is easily applied by serrated scraper or brush and is clean and economical to use, resulting in a secure and lasting bond.
APPLICATION
Ensure that the materials to be bonded are clean, dry and free from dust, loose materials, oil or grease.
Bonds can be made by the following techniques:
Two-Way Dry Stick
An even film of adhesive should be applied to both surfaces using a scraper or brush. When the adhesive becomes touch dry, i.e. no longer transfers to the knuckles, bring the materials together under firm pressure to ensure good coalescence. It is desirable to use a nip or hand roller to obtain the best results. Ensure parts are positioned correctly as permanent bonds are formed on contact, although full strength is obtained after 1 2 days.
Two-Way Semi-wet Stick
Adhesive is applied to one surface and allowed to dry completely (even overnight). The other surface is then coated and the bond made whilst there is still some solvent in the film.
This will allow for some slight adjustment although this method should only be used when one of the substrates is porous.
Heat Reactivation
Both surfaces are coated and allowed to dry completely. They are then placed under an infrared lamp and heat reactivated until the temperature of the film reaches 70°C. The films should then be joined under firm even pressure.
SPECIAL COMMENTS
Do not use on unbacked PVC without testing for plasticiser migration.
